NEBS(Network Equipment Building System)이란 규격은 미국내 통신사업자에게 통신장비를 판매하게 될 경우 필요한 규격으로 알고 있는데 궁금한점은
- NEBS가 강제규정인지를 알고 싶습니다. 즉, NEBS Certification의 미획득이 곧 물건을 팔 수 없음을 의미하는지요?
- 그 절차와 기간, 가격은 어떻게 되는지?
- 국내 통신 사업자중에서 NEBS규격을 획득한 곳이 있는지?
- 국내에도 NEBS규정과 관련된 전문가 혹은 컨설턴트가 활동을 하는지?

- NEBS란?
NEBS Standards 또는 Requirements는 Central Office(CO)에서 사용되는Telecommunication 장비에 대한 기본적인 환경 요구사항을 모아놓은 규격으로 1970년대 Bell Telephone Laboratories에 의해 처음으로 개발된 이후 Bell Core에 의해 확장되었으며 Network Equipment Building System으로 불리우고 있습니다. NEBS는 personal safety, personnel property, operational continuity에 관한 내용을 포함하고 있으며,미국 내 대부분의 Service Provider들은 NEBS Tested 또는 NEBS Compliant 장비를 요구하고 있습니다. NEBS는 크게 2가지 문서로 분리되어 있으며 각 범주는 다음과 같습니다.
A. Physical Criteria :
- Space Planning
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Fire
- Earthquake
B. Electrical Criteria :
- ESD
- EMI
- Lightning
- AC Power Fault
- Electrical Safety
- Bonding and Grounding
그리고 NEBS Criteria Level은 제품의 종류에 따라 다음과 같이 3가지로 분류되어 있습니다.
A. Level 1 :
- Minimum environmental compatibility
- Applications : Prototype equipment, equipment used for non-vital services
B. Level 2 :
- Assures limited equipment operability in controlled or normal environment
- Applications : equipment used in data centers or failure-tolerant services
C. Level 3 :
- Assures maximum equipment operability
- Applications : critical network equipment (e.g. switches, transport products, power systems)

- Standard # : TR-NWT-000063 --> 본 규격은 Bell Operating Company(BOC)'s Central Office(CO)의 환경을 기술합니다.
